Thermography Inspection

Thermography offers a means of either single-sided or through-transmission noncontact inspection of flat or curved area on metal, composite, polymer, or ceramic structures. Typical aerospace applications include detection of water in honeycomb core sandwich structures, location of foreign objects in composite layups, detection of impact damage and discontinuities (such as delaminations, inclusions, porosity, or water) in composites, and measurement of coating and wall thickness in turbine blades. Although there are many approaches to thermographic nondestructive testing, all its techniques involve at least three distinct operations: stimulation, temperature measurement, and analysis.
